Helpful Review: The Screen is very responsive for reading books, surfing the web, watching movies, and listening to music. I can’t speak to game playing (not my thing), but it performs perfectly well for the activities I bought it for. It nicely replaced both my Kindle and my old Asus tablet.
However, nothing is perfect:
I could do without the ads, but they only show once every time the screen wakes up (you can pay to remove them).
It comes somewhat locked to the Amazon app world, but it’s easy to “unlock” and install other apps from the Google ecosystem. You will lose the warranty, but you gain a ton of app flexibility without losing (as far as I’ve seen) any functionality from the installed Amazon OS.
The home screen is not very configurable; even with the “unlock,” it doesn’t have the flexibility of a standard Android interface. “Unlock” here means you can install apps outside the Amazon app store but not replace the Amazon-customized Android OS.
That said, there are many positives:
The screen is very good, with excellent responsiveness for my uses.
Sound quality is good (not excellent).
Wi-Fi works well, supporting both 2G and 5G.
For the occasional Amazon app I dislike (like Amazon Photos), I simply installed an alternative. For example, I use VLC to watch movies.

Compared to other tablets, I would need to spend ten times as much to get something as good as my Fire!
2. Apple iPad 10.2 inch 9th Gen:
Helpful Review: This is a great little device. We needed a tablet that could run zoom and “virtual learning” things more smoothly than our daughter’s fire tablet. We were also looking for something she can play Roblox on without all the glitches that comes with Fire tablets. We found this on sale for the same price as a Fire 10 which seemed like a steal, so we went ahead and got it. I am very glad, because it just runs a lot more smoothly in general than fire tablets (which is the only other type we’ve had for her). It seems to charge at a decent speed, and the battery holds for several days. Although she doesn’t use it very frequently during the week so maybe if she used it more, it wouldn’t last as long. I will say shipping took forever.
It was supposed to be a 1 week ship and it got delayed and took 2 weeks. Also, a notice for android users: It was really hard for me to set up for a kids tablet. I do love that there are kid setting options, but setting it up was very confusing for me, as an android user. And thank goodness my wife is an apple girly, because it seems like it would be very hard to navigate the kids side on the parent account without another apple device.
I am the tech setter-upper in the house, and I’m sure this was user error, but I ended up having to go through all my wife’s accounts to set it up rather than my own. Also (in case you’re not used to apples), it seems like you cannot set it up for an adult and then add the child account onto the same device, like you would be able to for a Fire. It has to solely be set up for that child and then managed on a second apple device. Overall it works very well, looks shnazzy, serves all our purposes, and was a great price.
3. Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 10.5″ Android Tablet:
Helpful Review: I received this tablet a little more than a week ago. I have had many of the Amazon “k” tablet for many years and we’re very happy with them. I wanted a tablet for vacation that had access to Google because the apps needed for the vacation events are not available on the Amazon software. I have always had the Galaxy phones so it made sense to me to purchase a Galaxy tablet.
The set up was easy. The display resolution is good and the touch screen is responsive. That being said, I am a bit disappointed in how there seems to be a lag in launching apps and waking this tablet up. Once apps are open, the tablet performs nicely. In retrospect, I should have bought the latest version of the Galaxy tablet but the price was right and for what my needs are, it will be fine. If you’re looking for a tablet for everyday use, I recommend going with the latest version instead of the A8.
4. Lenovo Tab M10 Android Tablet:
Helpful Review: I have had a seven-inch LG tablet for many years that is still working fine, but it has become increasingly difficult getting updates for the Android 5 programs I had installed on the device. It was time for a new tablet, and I have found that Android devices need at least 64GB of resident memory to support a decent complement of installed programs.
I also wanted a brand name — something other than Samsung, which I have found to be a company making shoddy and disposable products and refusing to stand behind them. So I found this Lenovo with the size and memory I needed, priced right at around $200. It came with Android 12, but I updated it to Android 13 without any issues.
The screen is bright and sharp, with vivid colors, and the four speakers with Dolby Atmos deliver clear, crisp sound, though with little bass. The imaging extends far beyond the horizontal dimensions of the tablet. Updating files and programs from my old tablet to the new one was an easy process. I wish Windows still did this, as it did back in the days of Windows 7! I can’t say much about the front and back cameras other than to note that they both work as expected. Battery life is excellent — you can easily make it through the day on one charge.
It’s also simple transferring files from the tablet to a Windows laptop. You just have to remember to tell Android what you’re doing (not just charging the battery) under Settings. And though the startup instructions are a little sketchy (and tiny and hard to read!), installing an SD card for added memory is as simple as popping out the card drawer with the pin ejection tool included in the product box.
5. Fusion5 Windows Tablet:
Helpful Review: Impressive tablet PC! It’s size is comfortable without being too small or too large. The weight is a little on the heavy side but that’s specific to my needs as I have numbness and arthritis in both hands and wrists. So, I will be getting something to help me with that. The screen is bright, but adjustable. I like bright. And so far, other than Google Chrome, it is running all of my apps – Audacity and Cricut.
I do have others to verify – Noteburner, PC Optimizer, etc. Set-up was relatively seamless and only took about one day – 24 hours. It is a great product with many options – micro HDMI, USB, headphones, SD and micro SD card slots, and Bluetooth ready. YAY! What more do you need folks!?
6. Apple iPad Air 10.9 Inch:
Helpful Review: This iPad is compatible with the Apple Pencil (2nd generation) which I strongly preferred over all the other pencils, so it was important to me to find an iPad that was compatible with that particular pencil. That pencil will magnetically attach to the iPad and will charge from the iPad rather than having to connect a charger to the pencil, so I thought that was neat.
I use this iPad mainly for digital art, note taking, and writing books. It gets used for a 3-6 hours everyday and I always leave it turned on 24/7 and I only end up having to charge it every 3-4 days. I take it everywhere with me because while it’s not very small, it’s still smaller than any laptop and will fit in a large purse or tote that I carry around daily lol. It’s great for graphic designers, digital artists, and/or students who need to take notes, study, do projects, or write papers (get a keyboard case for typing) and so much more.
When drawing and making my digital art, the pencil glides across the screen so smoothly like an ink pen on paper, there is no LAG, no funky looking results or anything when drawing, everything comes out the exact same way that I draw it on the screen. And this is way better than buying a graphic tablet and having to hook it up to a laptop or PC. I haven’t had a laggy experience with doing anything on the iPad at all so far. Everything loads up and syncs up quite quickly I just love it soooo much.
I got the wifi+cellular one but I don’t use the cellular connection, only the wifi connection. But I got cellular anyway in case I change my mind one day if I find that relying heavily on wifi everywhere I go, just to use my iPad, is no longer an option. But I probably won’t though since my phone has a hotspot and majority of the time I just connect it to that if I’m not at home to use wifi, still works like a charm.
I am very pleased with my purchase and this was 100% worth the money. I do wish I had more storage though, I got the 256GB one but I wish they made this model with 1TB or 2TB storage.. But I’m not complaining because I haven’t nearly run out of storage or anything, I’m just afraid that I will create so many files or download so many apps that one day I MIGHT actually run 🏃♂️ out 😅 but that day is probably a long way away.
